A classic version of Habbo Hotel launched in June, bringing back the beloved 2005 experience with Habbo Hotel Origins. This revival includes nostalgic features and has attracted a surge of new and returning players after trending on social media.
Sulake aims to direct some of these players to their Modern Client, which is also part of the Habbo ecosystem. In recent years, the Modern Client has seen a decline in active players and has been somewhat overlooked.
To help Sulake retain an active player base and attract newcomers to both Origins and the Modern Client, they have introduced new furniture and badges obtainable through limited-time events on the Modern Client. To support this effort, I’ve partnered with Habbo to design some of these new badges, ensuring they stay true to the classic Habbo experience while revitalizing the platform.
This was a challenging request for me, as I’m typically more familiar with the interface than with pixel work. However, I saw it as an opportunity to challenge myself and enhance the experience for both long-time players and newcomers alike.
To design these badges, I conducted research to understand the colors, styles, and themes that the community liked and frequently used. I identified key patterns and built upon these ideas to create unique badges with my own creative twist. The results are a set of badges that meet the community's needs, introduce fresh elements, and work seamlessly on both the new (beta) and classic UI of the modern client.
Sulake was very pleased with the outcome, and the community responded positively to the new badges.
